Tek Tips
1) Today people store everything on there computer, Credit card numbers, bank accounts, email, business transactions, calendars, contacts and photos. With all the focus with on-line identity theft it is amazing to me that people will still give there computer to just anyone when they are done with it.
2) Throwing away storage media can be a bad idea!
Data stored on external media, floppy disks, zip disks, CD's, and any other external physical storage media should never be thrown into the trash. The most expedient method of disposal for such media is physical destruction, sufficient to render media unreadable.
3) Data stored on other devices
For any other device that stores data, MCD can assist in data removal:
* External hard drives should be treated in a similar fashion to
desktop hard drives.
* USB flash drives typically have an overwrite utility on them.
* PDA's can be reset to factory status, per instructions that came
with the PDA.
* iPods can be reset to factory status using the tools that come
from Apple.
* Flash memory card makers often provide wipe utilities.
